Modern Music in America (Roger Malaga)
Modern music in America offers a lot of variety with it many genres and subgenres. As of today, the most prevalent, or most current genre is hip-hop. Well known traditional hip-hop artists of today include Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole. These 2 artists show off each aspect of traditional hip-hop from technicality in their vocal delivery to their clever lyricism. Though hip-hop can’t be characterised by just these 3 artists. One other subgenre of hip-hop is experimental hip-hop. A more experimental hip-hop sound means for more noisey and wild beats. Other than hip-hop, pop still remains as a heavily popular genre. Two pop singers include Clario and Mac Demarco. While they’re both pop singers, both their music sound different. Clairo makes more dreamy bedroom pop while Mac Demarco makes folkish jangle pop. Green Day is an example of a punk rock band who sound very different from Five Finger Death Punch who make hardcore rock. In conclusion, modern music in America has lot of variety beyond the surfaces of its more popular genres.
