America’s Independence
The 4th of July is as american as holidays get, its sole purpose is to celebrate America’s independence. Usually it is celebrated on or around the 4th of July, with food, drinks, and lots of fireworks. Here in Columbus, Ohio my family and I go downtown near the riverbank with blankets, chairs, food, and drinks and wait until around 10 pm for the 10-20 minute firework show to begin. The fireworks are synced with a series of songs which you can listen to on your local radio station. Usually we are just a few in the crowd of millions who come downtown for this celebration. Food trucks and stands line the local streets where they serve hamburgers, hotdogs, popcorn, funnel cakes, elephant ears, slushies, ice cream, sausages, beer and many other foods and beverages. At the end of the night traffic is heavy, trash is everywhere, and it’s time to head home. My family’s journey home is a few mile long walk home where we lay in bed exhausted.
