Hello! My name is Kayden Whaley, and I live in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. I would like to introduce you to the music of America. My personal favorite genres are hip hop/lyrical rap and funk/R&B. In hip hop, Kanye West is one of the most influential artists in our generation of hip hop. He has so many standout albums like “The College Dropout”, “Graduation”, “808s and Heartbreak”, etc… He has opened the door for modern artists like Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino (my personal favorite). A notable artist who is from my own state of Ohio is Kid Cudi, who has done a lot of collaboration with Kanye West. He has made one of my favorite albums of all time called “Man on the Moon” that came out in 2009. Although I really enjoy hip hop and lyrical rap, another side of music you should know about is R&B. Artists like Bryson Tiller, Frank Ocean, SZA, and Kali Uchis are some of the modern R&B artists. They all have very chill and different music that you should try out. Another form of R&B is “funk”. One of my favorite artists, Childish Gambino (Donald Glover), started out in lyrical rap with albums like “Camp” and “Because the Internet”, and has now recently made a funk album called “Awaken, My Love!”. I loved this because it combined some of my favorite aspects of music, he was even nominated for a Grammy for it.
